Anti-Imperialist Front of Peoples against the Assyrian Empire

On the 1st Tammuz (July) a battle took place between the Assyrian Empire under King Salmānu-ašarēd III and a coalition of the peoples of twelve states in an ancient city at the Orontes in Syria 853 BC. Salmanasser’s alleged victory is described on the Kurkh Stela, which was found in Turkey in 1861 and is now in the British Museum. It probably originally stood on a street, so it was a kind of public propaganda. In the upper part it shows Salmanasser the symbols of the gods Assur, Ishtar, Anu and Sin.

The Assyrian Anti-Imperialist Alliance was involved:

  1. the Arameans which is today’s Syria.
  2. the Hebrews which is today’s Israel.
  3. the Phoenicians which is today’s Lebanon.
  4. the Egyptians which is the Egypt of today.
  5. the Arabs which is today’s Arabia.
  6. the Ammonites which is Jordan today.
  7. the Philistines which is today’s Palestine.

In addition to the iconographic and archaeological results, there are other indications that the battle did not end with a victory for the Assyrians:

  1. Salmanassar III carried out three further campaigns against the Aramaic region in 849, 848 and 845, during which he encountered almost the same opponents as he had in 853 BC at Qarqar. The Arameans were the strongest force in the coalition of peoples. Ahab of Israel is no longer mentioned in the inscriptions about the campaigns in the years 849-845 BC.After three years of peace, Israel led a war campaign against the Arameans of Damascus through the common struggle against the Assyrian Empire and thus betrayed the collation of the peoples. Thus Aram-Damascus had to assert itself predominantly alone against the Assyrian army during the campaigns of Salmanassar III in the years 841, 838 and 837. If Salmanassar III had made the battle of Qarqar victorious in 853 BC, the Aramaic states would hardly have been able to resist him in 849 BC.
  2. Conclusion: The battle at Qarqar at the Orontes ended contrary to the representation of the inscriptions of Salmanassar III with a victory of the Arameans in an alliance with the peoples of Mesopotamia over the Assyrian army. Salmanassar III had to retreat with his army after this battle. The Assyrian inscriptions, in which the great successes of Salmanassar III in his Mesopotamian campaigns are reported, served the propaganda in his own country and as such had a stabilising function for the rule.

The 1st Tammuz is a day of remembrance of the anti-imperialist resistance of the peoples against oppression and enslavement. And as the peoples of Mesopotamia, Anatolia and the Near and Middle East had united to oppose the aggression of the imperialist Assyrian, the Süryani-Devrimciler (Revolutionary Suryoye/Arameans) call the peoples to anti-imperialist resistance against the US imperialism and the already then traitorous Zionist Israel. The coalition of 12 tribes and 7 peoples defeated and defeated the enemy through their common strength of unity. All power comes from the people and that is why it is important that the peoples organize themselves together in the ANTI-IMPERIALIST FRONT (AIF) as the power of the peoples.
